Today is International Hobbit Day, and at Cubicle 7 we've been celebrating by playing our favourite story-telling card game - Hobbit Tales!

We'll be sharing our #hobbittales stories all this week, and we'd love you to join in on twitter and Facebook.

Here's a story from our CEO, Dominic McDowall - you can watch him play it in the video at the end of this post too:

"My favourite game of Hobbit Tales was the one we recorded for our example of play video on Youtube. Not only does it introduce the phrase 'Mr Squirrel, are you at home?' but it is also a testament to how enjoyable the game is - we're having great fun, even at the end of nine months of playtesting!"

The 22nd of September is International Hobbit Day, and at Cubicle 7 we're celebrating by breaking out our favourite story telling card game - Hobbit Tales!

We'll be sharing our #hobbittales stories all this week, and we'd love you to join in on twitter and Facebook.

Here's our first team member story, from our creative director Jon Hodgson:
"This was a real draw of cards that came up during a demo game at GenCon. I ran with it and started telling the story of The Hobbit.  The cards were incredibly fortuitous, and we made it through a (somewhat abridged) version of the whole story of Bilbo and his journey to The Lonely Mountain!"

We’re pleased to be able to update on the progress of Ruins of the North, our forthcoming adventure anthology for The One Ring Roleplaying Game; it has left the printers and is en route to our warehouses both in the US and the UK. If you’ve not pre-ordered it yet, then you still have a little bit of time left to do so!

We’re also over the moon to have been nominated for two Origins Awards! Both our card game, Hobbit Tales, and The Darkening of Mirkwood campaign for The One Ring are up for Best RPG Supplement. Our first card game, Doctor Who: The Card Game, won an Origins Award when it was first released, so let’s see if we can scoop a second one with our second card game; and Shadows over Scotland won an Origins Award for Best RPG Supplement, so let's see if we can add another trophy from that category to our cabinet!

We’ve got a busy week in store, following on from last week’s reveal of the covers to the next products for both Cthulhu Britannica and The Laundry.

Inspired by some gaming of our own at the weekend and a new review, we thought we’d take a fresh look at our ENnie Award-winning Hobbit Tales card game, which is our fast and fun storytelling card game that can also be used with The One Ring Roleplaying Game.

Then, later in the week, copies of Concert in Flames – our guidebook to Victoriana Europe – is hitting stores in the US, and we’ll be taking a look at what the future holds for World War Cthulhu. Here’s a clue: what you’ve seen so far is just the tip of the iceberg.

Voting for the 2014 ENnies Awards is now open, and we’re delighted to have been nominated for three awards – as well as best publisher:

We’re also over the moon to have received a Judges’ Spotlight Award for the Rocket Age Roleplaying Game: thank you to Stacy Muth for picking us for it!

Today we're casting a little light on one of our nominated games - Hobbit Tales.

Hobbit Tales - Nominated for Best Family Game

In Hobbit Tales players are Hobbits telling tales in front of a mug of beer at their favourite inn in the Shire. Silent woods and remote mountains, Elves, Goblins and Giants populate their stories.

During the game, players take turns as the Narrator and improvise a story using a hand of illustrated cards. The other players try to twist the tale, playing hazards and fearsome monsters. Drinks are served, smoke-rings are blown, and the best narrator is cheered by everyone present.

Hobbit Tales is a game for 2 to 5 Hobbits, authored by the award-winning designers Marco Maggi and Francesco Nepitello, creators of the Tolkien-themed War of the Ring strategy game and The One Ring role-playing game.

The game contains a set of rules, 1 board, 75 Adventure cards, 40 Hazard cards, 5 coasters, a set of cardboard tokens and a twelve-sided The One Ring Feat die.
