Last week was super-busy here at Cubicle 7, as we released a very exciting product: The Lone Wolf Adventure Game! We’ve posted quite a few previews of it, so today we thought we’d recap on the story so far…
The Lone Wolf Adventure Game is our new introductory roleplaying boxed set. The print version is now available to pre-order from our webstore, and the PDF version is available to buy from RPGNow and DriveThruRPG. Pre-orders both on our webstore and at participating Bits & Mortar retailers come with a complementary PDF copy too.
In The Lone Wolf Adventure Game you are Kai Lords – brave and noble warrior-monks sworn to protect the realm of Sommerlund from the evil of the Darklords – adventuring across the world of Magnamund. You and your friends will face terrifying enemies and uncover fiendish plots, working together to overcome the wicked plans of the Darklords and emerge victorious!
The game is playable right out of the box – you can be setting off on your first adventure within minutes of opening the box. The game is easy to learn too, the first adventure teaching you how to play.
As you grow in experience, additional features can be added in to give the game additional depth. There are a bunch of these included in the boxed set, and more will be included in forthcoming supplements. Experienced gamers can dive right in with all the options included, while new gamers can tailor the learning curve to their group.

Is the Game for Beginner or Experienced Players?
The short answer is: both! It’s a game that you can not only use to teach new gamers how to roleplay, but that you can hand to them and have them teach themselves.
But it’s also a complete game in its own right, not some cut-down, simplified version; we wanted it to appeal just as much to the battle-hardened veteran as to the fresh-faced novice.
The game includes two different game modes – Initiate-level and Master-level – allowing a novice group of players to learn the game at its own pace, whilst giving more experienced players a choice of more complex options.
You can read more about this aspect of the game here.
What System Does it Use?
The Lone Wolf Adventure Game takes the Lone Wolf game books as the inspiration for its system, but the rules have been newly designed for our game. At its simplest is the Initiate-level game, which keeps the mechanics to a minimum to allow new players to easily pick them up.
More experienced players can up the complexity with the Master-level game, which provides a variety of options that can be added slowly, or all at once. These include a more complex combat system, more character options and Kai’s favour, a currency for helping you succeed at tasks.
Tests are resolved by picking a random number, either by flicking a token at the random number chart printed inside the box lid or by rolling a d10. Normally, if a 6 or higher is picked, the test is success; more difficult tests require higher numbers, and bonuses can be gained from Kai disciplines and, in the Master-level game, by using skills and traits too.
Come back tomorrow, when we’ll be talking more about the mechanics of the game.

What's in the Books?
The Lone Wolf Adventure Game itself comprises three books: The Book of Kai Legends, The Book of Kai Training and The Book of Kai Wisdom.
The Book of Kai Legends contains two complete adventures, each designed to teach you and your players the rules as you play through them.
The Book of Kai Training is a great guide for a new player, describing what an adventure game is, explaining the basic rules of the game and introducing them to the world of Magnamund. This book also contains all the rules you’ll need to make your own characters too.
The Book of Kai Wisdom is a good book for the Narrator to read after his first adventure, as it contains all of the rules of the game in one place, complete with different options you can add in when you’re ready, plenty of helpful examples, hints and tips. It also contains an expanded guide to the world of Magnamund, as well as a bestiary.
You can read more about all three books here.
