Ruins of the North Update and Origins Award Nominations

Origins Awards 2015

We’re pleased to be able to update on the progress of Ruins of the North, our forthcoming adventure anthology for The One Ring Roleplaying Game; it has left the printers and is en route to our warehouses both in the US and the UK. If you’ve not pre-ordered it yet, then you still have a little bit of time left to do so!

We’re also over the moon to have been nominated for two Origins Awards! Both our card game, Hobbit Tales, and The Darkening of Mirkwood campaign for The One Ring are up for Best RPG Supplement. Our first card game, Doctor Who: The Card Game, won an Origins Award when it was first released, so let’s see if we can scoop a second one with our second card game; and Shadows over Scotland won an Origins Award for Best RPG Supplement, so let's see if we can add another trophy from that category to our cabinet!

 Origins Awards 2015

We will update you as soon as Ruins of the North hits our warehouse and pre-orders begin shipping out.

And, if you're planning to attend Origins in Columbus, OH, in June, make sure you vote for The Darkening of Mirkwood and Hobbit Tales!

About Ruins of the North

Children kidnapped in the night, unusually cunning Trolls, a mysterious caravan, the fate of a company of Hobbits, the legacy of the Dúnedain and an evil awakening beneath the barrows – six new stories set in the ancient land of Eriador. Six adventures that need a company of heroes to undertake them.

Ruins of the North contains six ready-to-play adventures, complete scenarios that can be played separately or as an epic series spanning a number of years. All adventurers are set in the years prior to 2977, and take place in the lands surrounding Rivendell.

Ruins of the North complements the background and rules material contained in Rivendell, the latest supplement for The One Ring Roleplaying Game based upon The Hobbit™ and The Lord of the Rings™.

Delve into the ruins of overgrown Fornost, walk amidst the cairns of the Barrow-downs and venture to the lair of the Witch-king of Angmar himself, the ancient city of Carn Dûm — if you have the courage!

Written by Francesco Nepitello, Andrew Kenrick, Adam Dials, James Brown, Richard Harrison, T.S. Luikart, Marco Rafalá and James M. Spahn. Illustrated by Andrew Hepworth, Jon Hodgson, Sam Manley, Jeremy McHugh and Jan Pospisil.

Pre-order from our webstore here, or get the PDF here. All copies of Ruins of the North come with a complementary PDF of the supplement. Preorders at participating Bits & Mortar stores are also eligible for a free PDF version.

About Hobbit Tales

In Hobbit Tales players are Hobbits telling tales in front of a mug of beer at their favourite inn in the Shire. Silent woods and remote mountains, Elves, Goblins and Giants populate their stories.

During the game, players take turns as the Narrator and improvise a story using a hand of illustrated cards. The other players try to twist the tale, playing hazards and fearsome monsters. Drinks are served, smoke-rings are blown, and the best narrator is cheered by everyone present.

Hobbit Tales is a game for 2 to 5 Hobbits, authored by the award-winning designers Marco Maggi and Francesco Nepitello, creators of the Tolkien-themed War of the Ring strategy game and The One Ring Roleplaying Game.

The game contains a set of rules, 1 board, 75 Adventure cards, 40 Hazard cards, 5 coasters, a set of cardboard tokens and a twelve-sided The One Ring Feat die.

Hobbit Tales won a Silver ENnie for Best Family Game in 2014 and was nominated for Best RPG Supplement in the 2015 Origins Awards.

You can order it from our webstore, or from your local games store.

About The Darkening of Mirkwood

The Necromancer may have been cast out of Dol Guldur, but a lingering darkness remains over Mirkwood, a shadow that will grow ever longer as the years draw on – unless a fellowship of heroes step forward and hold back the gloom.

The Darkening of Mirkwood is a complete campaign for The One Ring, set in Mirkwood over the course of three decades. It allows you to tell your own epic saga, following your heroes in their quest as the tale of years unfolds before them.

This supplement includes enough adventure material to keep you playing for months or even years, as well as new rules that give your heroes a real stake in what happens to the world around them. Rules for Holdings allow them to carve out their own corner of Middle-earth, whilst new options for the Fellowship Phase and Undertakings to achieve allow them to chart their own path.

Visit the Parliament of Spiders, do battle with the Nazgûl, meddle in the affairs of Wizards and enter the Halls of King Thranduil. Stand firm against the Shadow and maybe the Darkening of Mirkwood can be averted. Falter for even a moment and all that you know and love will be lost.

This 144-page supplement includes:

  • A critically acclaimed campaign spanning 30 years worth of game time, including complete adventures and plot hooks in abundance.
  • Stats for the Nazgûl for the first time.
  • New Fellowship phase undertakings.
  • Rules for Holdings, allowing heroes to carve out their own corner of Middle-earth.

144 pages, hardcover, full-colour interior, written by Gareth Ryder-Hanrahan and Francesco Nepitello, with art by Jon Hodgson, Jason Juta and Jordy Lakiere.

The Darkening of Mirkwood is available to order from our webstore or to buy in PDF here. All print copies of The Darkening of Mirkwood come with a complementary PDF of the supplement. Preorders at participating Bits & Mortar stores are also eligible for a free PDF version.
