Our new Laundry supplement, As Above, So Below, is in truth two supplements in one, for it covers both the political mandarins of Westminster, as well as the elite Special Forces soldiers tasked with carrying out their orders. In today's blog, we take a look at this latter side of the supplement, as well as present the new Special Forces character sheet for you to download.
When there’s a clear and present danger, when the Laundry needs to apply force very quickly and very directly, they turn to the professionals. They call in the SAS, the United Kingdom Special Forces. Tough and highly trained, they’ll get the job done. The decisions made by Special Forces matter; their decisions are often made in the split second, and are the difference between life and death. Hesitate, or make the wrong call, and you die, or your squadmates die, or maybe everyone in the world dies. They’re down in the trenches, in the foxholes, in the godforsaken corners of the world, on lonely plateaus in Central Asia or warzones in Africa, spending the coin of their lives to complete the mission.
In a typical Laundry scenario, this is territory into which an average PC never strays. They investigate the dangerous cult, find the mysterious gate and then call in back-up from the SAS, chalking it up as a victory for the team. As Above, So Below allows you to expand the scope of your game into this territory, bringing in temporary Special Forces PCs to take over from the regular agents when there's fighting to be done.
As Above, So Below introduces a quick and easy method of character generation for Special Forces operatives working with the Laundry, allowing you to create these temporary PCs at the drop of a hat. It also describes operations protocols, tactics and equipment used by the Special Forces, both in the real world and the world of the Laundry. Finally a new scenario - On Borrowed Time - is designed for a group of Special Forces.

About As Above, So Below
Covert insertion, a HALO drop into enemy territory. There are some things the spooks can't handle, some problems that can only be resolved through superior firepower. Even though you're going up against unknowable horrors, you don't have the luxury of fear, because lives are on the line here.
An emergency senior committee meeting in an anonymous briefing room in Whitehall. The shuffle of papers, low murmur of voices. The minister wants a proposal on his desk by 9. Army liaison confirms they have assets in place. Not that they know what's really at stake. They not cleared for what you know, but lives are on the line here.
When the going gets tough, the Laundry calls in the professionals. This sourcebook gives rules and guidelines on incorporating special forces missions into your games of The Laundry Roleplaying Game. The spies have done their grubby work – now it's time for the SAS to drop in and put down the alien horrors with courage and high explosives. Visit alien dimensions and the most remote, unfriendly regions of our own world, meet interesting locals, and kill them before they kill you.
The decisions that matter aren't made in the field – they're made in conference calls, in committee meetings. This sourcebook add a political dimension to your games of The Laundry Roleplaying Game, letting the players climb the ladder of promotion and take charge. Management isn't always a bad thing – it's power by another name, and bargains with ministers and Auditors work just like bindings with eldritch entities. Sorcery is the continuation of politics by other means.
Two sourcebooks in one, exploring two very different facets of the Laundry.
The military, and the political.
The sharp end, and the hand that guides.
