1. A different setting every week

What other game allows you to be exploring the last planet in the universe one week, swashbuckling with Robin Hood the next and investigating mysterious goings on in modern-day London the week after? In the Doctor Who Roleplaying Game, you and your friends play time-travelling adventurers, which means that every adventure can be completely different – and yet the overarching mythology of the show ensures a consistent feel from week to week.

2. Iconic Baddies

DWRPG_BaddiesThe Doctor has faced some truly memorable foes over the course of his long life. And, when you play the Doctor Who Roleplaying Game, you’ll get to test your mettle against these iconic foes too! Can your character escape being exterminated by a Dalek, upgraded by a Cyberman or avoid blinking in the face of a Weeping Angel? The new rulebook includes some of the Twelfth Doctor’s more recent foes too, including the Boneless and the Teller – but with over 50 years worth of episodes to draw from, the Gamemaster is never going to run out of great monsters to throw at you!

3. Play as the Doctor! Or Another Time Lord

DWRPG_DoctorThe Doctor is one of the great heroes of our time – brave, clever and funny, solving problems with his wits and getting both into and out of trouble with his big mouth. In the Doctor Who Roleplaying Game, you can play as the Doctor himself – any one of his thirteen incarnations, in fact!

Or, perhaps you want to create your own Time Lord – well, the Doctor Who Roleplaying Game has a complete set of rules for making your own Time Lord too (and if you pick up The Time Traveller’s Companion, you’ll find even more options – including rules for designing your own TARDIS too).

4. A Ready-Made Cast of Characters

DWRPG_CharactersSure, the Doctor might be great at pretty much everything (at least, that’s what he’d tell you), but he’d be in some pretty serious trouble without his friends. And he’s had some great friends down the years, from teacher Clara Oswald and the Victorian-era Paternoster Gang, to such classic favourites as brave journalist Sarah Jane and the Doctor’s own granddaughter Susan. In the Doctor Who Roleplaying Game, you can play as any of the Doctor’s past or present companions, and the latest edition includes ready-made character sheets for a whole swathe of the Twelfth Doctor’s companions.

Or you might decide to make your own companion instead, in which case the rulebook’s got you covered with a completely customisable set of rules for making a character from scratch – even an alien like Madame Vastra or Strax!

But wait, if you can play as the Doctor, why would you want to play anyone else? Well, the Doctor’s a formidable force for sure, but not everybody wants to play the loud, obnoxious centre of attention – and the Doctor’s friends are just as important to the story as he is, and in the game come loaded with a whole heap of Story Points and other helpful traits to make sure they get to play a central role too.

5. Over 50 Years Worth of Adventures

DWRPG_AdventuresDoctor Who was first broadcast on TV as long ago as 1963, which not only makes it the longest-running sci-fi show, but also means there’s over 50 years worth of adventures for you to draw on for the Doctor Who Roleplaying Game! You might decide to take inspiration from the Twelfth Doctor’s adventures inside a Dalek in the latest series, or hop back in time to his very first encounter with the Cybermen. Whether you’re replaying favourite episodes, pondering the question of What If? or coming up with your own unique creations, you’ll never be stuck for ideas!

There are two brand-new adventures in the new rulebook, as well as favourite baddies and plenty of ideas for your own scenarios. And if that’s not enough, each of our Doctor Sourcebooks focuses on a different one of the Doctor’s incarnations, comprehensively looking at each of his adventures as well as detailing monsters, NPCs and gadgets that he encountered along the way. You’ll never be stuck for ideas!

Frequently Asked Questions

Is this the same game as Doctor Who: Adventures in Time and Space?

It is the same great game! Because we’ve got all sorts of exciting plans for our range of Doctor Who games, we've updated the name to make it as clear as possible what it is when it's on a shelf next to some of the exciting new things we have coming up.

I already have the Doctor Who: Adventures in Time and Space boxed set – do I need to buy this rulebook to continue playing?

Not at all! While we’ve fully updated the new rulebook with imagery from the latest series of Doctor Who, as well as new monsters, characters and gadgets, the game that you know and love remains the same as it always has done!

What happened to the Limited Edition Core Rulebook?

It was printed in limited numbers and quickly sold out! If you have a copy of the Limited Edition – well done, they’re exceedingly rare nowadays so hold onto it! We've heard a whisper that there's a slim chance we might unearth some unsold copies, but they'll be in short supply.

Is the Doctor Who Roleplaying Game still compatible with all the supplements?

Yes! There’s already a fantastic range of supplements for the Doctor Who Roleplaying Game, so we made sure that the new core rulebook works perfectly with all of them.

Is there a way for me to get the new material without buying the rulebook?

Just like we did with previous regenerations of the game we’re working on a free update PDF that will provide you with the new rules material – including the new characters and monsters – without you having to buy the whole rulebook again.  But we think you'll want the standalone hardcover.

"So all of time and all of space is sitting out there. A big blue box. Please don't even argue."
